Local patients help non-profit reach milestone

Hillsdale Daily News –

Most people go in for their routine dental check-ups expecting a free toothbrush, not balloons and confetti. Sisters Ava, 7, and Lily Middleton, 5, received special treatment on Tuesday though.

The sisters were the 100,000 and 100,001 patients at the My Community Dental Center. The local center is one of 36 centers statewide who have been scheduling new patients since 2006 in an effort to reach 100,000 children served. MCDC also has centers in Coldwater, Three Rivers and Sturgis.

Affordable Dentures & Implants Donates $3.5 Million in 2017

In January 2017, Affordable Dentures & Implants announced it would partner with Brighter Way Institute of Phoenix, Arizona, for a nationwide program to deliver free dental implant, oral surgery, and prosthetic treatment to hundreds of US military veterans and homeless citizens. The network of affiliated dental practices set a goal of contributing nearly $3.25 million in pro bono implant and prosthetic services in 2017.

Affordable Dentures & Implants has announced that it exceeded its goal and donated more than $3.5 million in dental services in 2017. Overall, 120 doctors from more than 20 states participated in the six Brighter Way events, where approximately 1,500 implants were placed and approximately 350 denture pieces were fabricated. Affordable Dentures & Implants is looking forward to continuing the program in 2018 and again has six Brighter Way events scheduled. The company hopes to meet and exceed the level of donated care given in 2017.

The Changing Face of Women in Dentistry

Dentistry Today –

Prior to 1980, few women attended dental school, and women comprised less than 3% of all dentists.1 When I attended dental school around 10 years later, roughly 30% of my class consisted of female students. Today, the dental school population is typically an even split of females and males, and female dentists now represent 27% of the industry.2
